What You Need To Know Maintaining Hardwood Floors

Use the following tips when cleaning messes off your hardwood floors:

  • Use a clean, damp cloth to blot spills as they occur
  • Spills from oil, paint, markers, makeup, ink, etc. can be cleaned up with acetone applied to a damp cloth
  • For solid spills like wax and chewing gum, use an ice cube to harden the spill before gently scraping it away

Preventative Maintenance

Preventative maintenance for your hardwood floors should consist of the following:

  • Sweep, dust, and vacuum your floor regularly to prevent dirt accumulation that could scratch and dull your hardwood
  • Place protective mats at all entrances to collect dirt and debris that would otherwise be tracked in on shoes
  • Add floor protectors on all furniture legs and take care when moving heavy furniture
  • Maintain the relative humidity of your home to minimize the expansion and contraction of wood floors
  • Keep pets’ nails trimmed to minimize scratches
  • Occasionally rearrange furniture and rugs to allow floors to age evenly and receive even UV exposure

When you develop your hardwood cleaning routine, be sure to reference your product’s warranty information for specific care requirements as recommended by the manufacturer.
